        Facilitating Operational Excellence January 2010
Learning & Development - The Need for Tomorrow

In today’s economic climate, the challenges have never been greater for Learning and Development (L&D). Need-based training are now a thing of the past.

Today, organizations are building their employee plan on two bedrocks- A comprehensive role-based training, that goes beyond an ad-hoc training engagement to make an empirical difference to the workforce competence, followed by impact that the L&D organization is able to have on the company’s bottom line.

Given the above and the backdrop of business priorities, L& D functions are placing their bet on assessing the capability of the talent pool and care crafting development programs for smaller groups than going for the conventional one size fit-all training programs. This considerably reduces the spends.

With “talent management” in focus again, the L& D function is also to see how it can be relevant to an individual’s aspirations by choosing vendors' learning-paths over mere training programs. Now, it is for the learning industry to gear up and be relevant to the L&D community by providing comprehensive three pronged offerings around Assessment, Training and Certifications.
